Veteran actor and politician Vinod Khanna, who was the original heartthrob of Hindi films, died at the age of 70 earlier Thursday in Mumbai, after a difficult battle with cancer, he passed away at 11.20am. The funeral of the actor took place on Thursday evening amid presence of friends, family and colleagues. It’s a sad moment for us to know that one of the finest person is no more and his absence will make a much difference, surely we will miss him forever.
In his long Bollywood career, he worked in more than 100 films and entertained everyone of us with his magical performance and screen presence, and he was also an active politician, and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Punjab.
Vinod Khanna has gave some of the biggest Bollywood hits like Mere Apne, Insaaf, Parvarish, Muqaddar Ka Siqandar, Qurbani, Dayavaan, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Chandni, The Burning Train and Amar, Akbar, Anthony and many more to say..
Vinod Khanna received the Filmfare award in the best supporting actor category for Haath Ki Safaai, and in 1999 he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, and again in 2007 he won a lifetime achievement award at the Zee Cine Awards.

1. Vinod Khanna was born in Peshawar, British India (now in Pakistan), his family moved to Bombay when India was partitioned. Born in a Punjabi family to Kamla and Kishanchand Khanna, a textiles, dyes and chemicals businessman.
2. He was one of the few actors who started his acting career with negative roles and latert came as lead hero, Vinod Khanna debuted in Sunil Dutt’s 1968 film Man Ka Meet directed by Adurthi Subba Rao, as a villain.
3. During 80’s along with the big established name like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna was said to be one of the highest-paid actors in Bollywood.
Vinod Khanna was paid more than Jeetendra in the film Insaan and more than Amitabh Bachchan in 4 films like Parvarish, Hera Pheri, Khoon Pasina, Amar Akbar Anthony. Khanna was paid more than Rishi Kapoor, Govinda, Sanjay Dutt, Rajinikanth, Salman Khan in the films he did with them from 1987-1995.
4. At his peak, Vinod Khanna left the film industry to become a disciple of Osho Rajneesh and moved to ‘Rajneeshpuram’ in the US where he spent his time cleaning dishes and working as Osho’s gardener and came back to India after five long years.
5. Not many know that he has appeared in a lead role in the Pakistani film ‘Godfather’ in 2007.
6. Vinod Khanna was also called as Sexy Sanyasi after he became a devout follower of Osho Rajneesh.
7. After joining the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in 1997, proved his ability in politics too. And has won four times: 1998, 1999, 2004 & 2014 from the border district of Gurdaspur in Punjab as a BJP Lok Sabha candidate, and became the Minister of State for External Affairs in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
8. Feroz Khan, one of Vinod Khanna’s good friends who worked with him in the hit 1980 film Qurbani, also coincidentally passed away on the same date April 27 in 2009.
As the news of the actor’s death came in, his friends and colleagues shared their grief at his death. He was remembered as a man who was committed to his work and a true friend for everyone. And everyone from the industry paid condolence to the family.
