Latest Updates From The Indore-Patna Express Derails Tragedy On Sunday.

More than 100 people were killed in their sleep and about 226 injured, 76 of them seriously injured, after the Indore-Patna Express train jumped the tracks near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday morning.

            14 coaches of the Indore-Patna express train derailed near Pukhrayan area in Kanpur’s Dehat district, the tragic accident took place at around 3 am on sunday near Pukhrayan, about 100 kms from Kanpur, when the passengers were fast asleep, it is the worst rail accident in recent years.

Northern Central Railways spokesperson Vijay Kumar said   that doctors and senior railway officials had reached the spot, adding that there are possibilities of casualties in the S2 coach which is severely damaged, Four AC coaches have also been derailed.

            National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have also reached the spot and have swung into action along with the police, pulling out bodies and providing aid to the victims.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of deceased and Rs 50,000 for seriously injured in the accident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offered his condolences to the bereaved families.

               All necessary assistance will provided to the affected. Railways officials said, Though the cause of the derailment is not known as of now, sources said the nature and timing shows that the accident was caused by a rail fracture. However, the exact reason would be known only after an inquiry.

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted that an inquiry has been ordered into the accident and that strict action will be taken against all those responsible.
“Senior officers ordered to go to spot immediately, they are on their way to the accident site. Local MPs, MLAs other functionaries have also rushed to the spot. Railways, district, state, NDRF teams are geared up to deal with the accident & offer all kind of help. We are doing our best to deal with sad accident,” he said.

Supply of food packets etc to injured and relatives being arranged in the hospitals. 4000 food packets, 2000 water bottles, 1500 tea supplied free of cost to passengers, Railway minister Suresh Prabhu.

Rs. 3.5 lakhs to be given to the departed’s kin as ex-gratia, tweets Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. Compensation of Rs.50,000 announced in case of grievous injury and Rs. 25,000 in case of simple injury. Mr. Prabhu adds that this ex-gratia amount is in addition to the compensation that will be available through the Railway Claims Tribunal.

  • Witnesses were sudden awake  from the fear when they were heard a bang and were thrown around. “We heard a deafening noise…I am lucky to be alive and safe,” a passenger said.
